Locorotondo

Locorotondo is a small town located between Martina Franca and Alberobello and officially one of the Borghi più belli d'Italia, the most beautiful villages of Italy. In addition to its picturesque appearance, the city is also known for its wine production. Locorotondo does not have specific tourist attractions; the city itself is the most important sight. It is just a pleasant place to spend a few hours.

The historic part of the city - the centro storico - is round and is located on a hill. It is a whitewashed maze of small streets lined with historic buildings, some modest and faded, others with fairly large baroque arches and architectural details. In addition to the small rural trulli houses, which you can see outside of Locorotondo, this area is also notable for another unusual type of building. These are narrow houses with gabled roofs - unusual in Italy - called cummerse. You can see whitewashed examples of this in Locorotondo's centro storico. It is a beautiful and well cared for center with lots of flower pots in front of the windows or on the steps in front of the door. There is even an annual prize for the most beautiful balcony in the town.
