Monopoli

Monopoli is located between the major cities of Bari and Brindisi and it is a traditional coastal town with around 90000 inhabitants. The town exudes typical southern Italian charms. Because it is often too hot in the summer, the town only starts after 8 p.m. The inhabitants then head out for dinner or eat with friends. Young people set out and get ready for a night in one of the town's beach clubs or one of the smaller bars. You will notice that it is a typical Italian area because of the friendliness of the inhabitants. There is a friendly atmosphere and nobody is in a hurry. They like it when there are tourists in the area. They like to have a chat. You get the feeling that they are genuinely interested in you.

Porta Vecchia is a wonderful place near the city wall. From this city beach you have a perfect view of the old city wall of Monopoli, where the cannons are still positioned.

If you later follow the wall a bit further on foot, you will come across a defense tower that was still built under the direction of Charles the Fifth. The tower looks like a true castle but serves as an archaeological museum. For the view alone, the tower is definitely worth a visit. The sunset is also breathtaking from here.
